Rayleigh Gift Shop To Raise Money For Two Charities

On Thursday June 14, gift shop Feathering Your Nest will be holding a cupcake event to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Awareness Day.

Explains owner Lesley Dunne: “My mum has Alzheimer’s, and a member of staff, Jo, saw her beautiful mum Valerie die from dementia at 60, so it’s close to our hearts.”

During July and August, the shop will also be running a Top Model colouring competition to raise money for Children With Cancer. “We charge £2 per entry and the children take over our window for a month with their colourful pictures. We get donations of sweets, colouring pictures and free stock from Depesche, and we also donate some of our own stock for the winning hampers,” confirms Lesley. “It’s lovely receiving the entries and helping the children to display their pictures.”

To add to the importance of the occasion, the shop always invite a local artist to judge the winners. “The serious young artists and designers really appreciate it as they take so much pride in their work,” explains Lesley.“It raises awareness and money for a great and worthy cause as well as for our Top Model range which never ceases to have an endless supply of new mini customers. Top Model is wonderfully creative and parents value the time their children spend away from the TV etc., to enjoy the simple pleasures of colouring and designing. It’s what I call a win win!”
