5 Top Tips For Gift Retailers …. Seasonal Displays

As the seasons change, so do window displays and in store designs, with visual merchandisers taking different approaches to reflect the time of year.

Designer Claudia Herke. from German design studio bora.herke.palmisano – design consultants to Messe Frankfurt trade shows that include Ambiente, Tendence, Christmasworld, Paperworld and Creativeworld – states that good visual merchandising will encourage customers to enter a shop and buy.

Claudia’s 5 top tips for Autumn/Winter 2018:

1. Choose natural colours: “In Autumn, the calm ‘balanced sobriety’ style is very appropriate for the season. Choose natural colours such as cinnamon, grey, beige and white. Introduce accents with black – for example, with perspex cubes coloured in black as pedestals for products.”

2. Think Autumn leaves: “Put the focus on the colours of Autumn leaves: red gold and aubergine/Bordeaux red.”

3. What props to use: “Stylised water basins are reminiscent of Japanese gardens; make cubes or ceiling hangings from bamboo poles. Wooden surfaces with beautiful subtle grains are also very suitable as surface materials.”

4. Create a festive atmosphere: “Christmas is about an opulent ‘splendid history’ style for the festive season. Create excitement with string curtains – both in the window display and in the shop layout. As an eye-catcher, put one large golden chandelier in the centre of the window, richly decorated with baubles and floristry.”

5. Add festive character: “To showcase the products, pull a few strings aside. Dark green and blue colours, combined with light blue and warm gold, bronze and metallic tones, emphasise the festive character.”
