Trendspotters at this week’s Home & Gift show in Harrogate are heading to a special feature, created by Clarion’s show partner The Better Trends Company, where the leading trends for 2023 are being showcased – Modern Psychedelic (which has inspired the 60s-esque creative for the show) and Abstract Organic – with No-ccasion an emerging trend for 2024.
“The trends reflect the concept we see bubbling up in today’s culture,” The Better Trends Company founder and director Louise Healy told GiftsandHome.net. “The trends are very people driven and tie in with the gifts and home industry in terms of what people want and what their needs are, reflecting their emotions. For example, we are currently in a permacrisis – people are feeling uncertain and unsure about things – and these trends encapsulate their reactions to that. People want products that make them feel more joyful.”

Modern Psychedelic is reimagined from the swinging ‘60s era. “It’s not only joyful but nostalgic too, and is about having fun again, despite everything that’s going on around us,” says Louise, “with clashing colours and bold patterns – fluid swirls and waves mixed with florals.”

Abstract Organic aims to bring people closer to nature. “Products are very tactile, blurring man made and nature, encouraging users to step outside of the digital world,” explains Louise. “The repetition and texture work together to create a calming space.”

No-ccasion meanwhile, is a celebration of the everyday and being enough. “The smallest affirmation can help to brighten someone’s day,” says Louise. “This trend aims to give people a feelgood vibe. To quote the model Kate Moss: ‘why can’t we have fun all the time! It’s about finding childlike joy through a beautiful product experience.”
Home & Gift is taking place in the grounds of the DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate, and in the Harrogate Convention Centre. The last day of the show is Wednesday July 19.
Progressive Gifts & Home magazine, along with its digital partner GiftsandHome.net, is a confirmed media partner of the show, following many years of successful collaboration.
