Brits Predicted To Spend Up To £1,000 On Christmas Gifts

With seven weeks left to Christmas, new research from local gift card champions Town & City Gift Cards reveals that 45% of Brits will be spending about the same this Christmas as last year, with 33% spending more, and 28% spending between £751-£1000, with almost three quarters of those surveyed, (73%), worried about finding the perfect gift.

Good news for gift indies is that a whopping 98% of respondents are keen to support local businesses this Christmas, with 60% saying. shopping local offers a better experience.

The findings further reveal that there is a move towards more ‘useful’ gifts that offer choice. The research revealed changing attitudes towards gifting with a greater emphasis on gifts that can be used in a practical way and offer the recipient choice,” comments Colin Munro, managing director of Miconex, which provides the technology for the Town & City Gift Card programme.

“There’s also a really strong awareness of the need to shop local because people realise the impact it has on their community,” continues Colin. “Local gift cards wrap up choice and support for shopping local in one gift card, reducing the pressure and worry of finding a perfect gift as the recipient can choose exactly what they want from all types and sizes of local businesses, with 89% planning to buy at least one gift card this Christmas.”

The research was carried out in August 2023 with over 1,000 consumers, employees and organisations.
