Last Friday (15 November), gift and lifestyle store Brocante held a Christmas Evening extravaganza in the multiple’s Charlestown store in St Austell, formerly an old chapel. The event helped to raise funds for 18-year-old Gracie Mae – Brocante’s visual merchandiser Katy Warne’s cousin – who has a brain tumour. “We wanted to raise funds so she has opportunities that she can experience now and for as long as she can enjoy them,” explains Katy.
“We had an amazing evening,” enthused Brocante’s co-owners Keiron Cockley and David Lorimer. “The turnout was incredible, and feedback has been so positive. For the first hour we had people queuing to get into the shop, as they all stopped to buy raffle tickets and also, to grab a glass of fizz.”
Adds Keiron: “The choir brought out the festive spirit, with plenty of Christmas shopping happening at the same time. Most importantly, in just over a week, we have raised over £4,000 so far for Gracie Mae, with Gracie and her family are blown away. It was particularly poignant on the day as she had an operation that morning to remove some of the tumour, which is all they can do at the moment.”
Keiron and David have also set up a Go Fund Me page: www.gofundme.com/f/support-gracie-mae
Continued Keiron: “There was the most incredible choir who performed a mix of Christmas classics and disco. It was so special in the setting which leant itself perfectly to the occasion. The chapel looked really fabulous with over-the-top decorations.”
Added David: “We had great support from other businesses in the area such as cafes, restaurants and hair and beauty salons – even a huge fish wholesaler – all of who we are planning to do link ups with in 2025. We have also had the support of our local press – the St Austell Voice and Cornwall Live. We always want to do something where we can see the direct benefit to a person and can support them with immediate effect.”
