A Trio Of Trends For 2021

With Ambiente unable to take place in its usual mid-February slot this year, organisers Messe Frankfurt have revealed the top three trends that will be shaping the giving, living and dining sectors in 2021 as the year unfolds.

Curated by the German design studio Stilbüro bora.herke.palmisano, they highlight the interior styles, materials and colours that will be inspiring both retailers and consumers over the coming year, based around how people will want to live in the future, and what has struck a chord since the pandemic.

“2020 has fundamentally changed our social and economic behaviour,” says Nicolette Naumann, Vice President of Ambiente. “Against this backdrop, the Ambiente trends offer valuable impetus for the coming business year, even without an on-site event.”

The three trend themes that have been selected for 2021 are:

Emotional: Love Of Home

Concept: The focus is on the home, creating a familiar, soothing living environment where people like to retreat – from working at home to an online yoga class to dinner in an intimate atmosphere.

Colour palette: Warm vintage colours that include peach, blush, washed-out forget-me-not blue, nude and nectar yellow.

Continual: Related To Nature

Concept: This trend is about alternative materials that make the home feel close to nature, to include coarse fabrics, painterly glazes and deliberately imperfect surfaces that give a rugged appearance while being perfectly crafted.

Colour palette: Colours ranges from a strong moss tone to earthy browns and greys andvegetative greens.

Renewal. Notion Of Redo

Concept: Standing for a spirit of departure, and embracing posirive change, the trend is about redesigning, upgrading and trying out new ideas. Based on a DIY attitude, it focuses on the staging of familiar materials in a way that hasn’t been seen before, inviting people to engage in new perspectives. T

Colour palette: Dark crimson, bright sunshine red, sky violet, pink, orange, fresh blue algae green, cloud grey and ocean blue makes you want to embrace positive change.

Ambiente will be taking place at Messe Frankfurt from February 11-15, 2022.
