Ahead of January’s Toy Fair 2020, Wild & Wolf – which will be making its debut at the show next year – has revealed the significant progress Ridley’s Games has made both in the UK and internationally, with one game in particular – Avocado Smash – rapidly becoming a global hit.
Comments Wild & Wolf’s commercial director James Portman: “Since we first launched our own IP games in AW18, to include the best selling Avocado Smash, the brand has gone from strength to strength. We’re excited by the continuing opportunities for expansion, not just in new markets but also major licensing deals that will really put Ridley’s on the map as a key player in the global games industry.”
Selling over 30,000 units in its first year, Avocado Smash was the top bestselling sku for Wild & Wolf last year. Internationally, there are currently translated copies of Avocado Smash in Hungary, Israel, Poland and Korea.
Mediawise, Avocado Smash has been featured on the Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio, with influencer Zoe Sugg (@Zoella), also featuring seven games from the Ridley’s Games collection in her Day In The Life YouTube video at the beginning of September, to include Avocado Smash.
The success of Ridley’s has impressed the toy trade too, with recognition in both Mojo Nation’s Play Creators Awards and Toy Shop UK’s Independent Toy Awards. In addition, Chris Naylor and Rich Walton on the Ridley’s Games team were shortlisted in the Game Designers of the Year category for Avocado Smash, with Chris also shortlisted in the Rising Star category. In addition, the Independent Toy Awards recognised Smashing Pumpkins with a Gold Award in the Card Games category, making it the first Gold win for Ridley’s.
