Bira Celebrates Independents’ Day

Along with hundreds of independent retailers up and down the country, to include gift retailers, the British Independent Retailers Association (bira) will be among those celebrating this year’s Independents’ Day on July 4.

The national event, which encourages shoppers to visit their local retailers, will feature special events, offers and discounts, with bira offering retailers 20% off membership for retailers who join the association on the day.

Comments Alan Hawkins, ceo of bira, which represents 6000 members in the UK: “We should be celebrating the contribution independent retailers make to our local communities and economy all year round. However, Independents’ Day is a great opportunity to shine a spotlight on the wonderful and passionate retailers we have. It is a great initiative to get involved with, and to get fellow local retailers engaged with too.”

Suggests Alan: “Perhaps retailers could offer a special discount, have balloons outside their business, promote the day across their social media channels and invite their local press along to take photos. We’ve got some ideas on bira.co.uk.”

Independents’ Day UK is a not-for-profit campaign that exists to support and promote independent retail businesses across the UK all year round, with an annual focus on July 4 – Independents’ Day.
