Next month, iconic British pottery brand Burleigh will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of one of its most popular patterns, Calico, by unveiling four new colourways. Inspired by pop art styling that reflects the mood of 1968, the design will feature on a new special edition mug.
The Osbourne anniversary mug showcases the new colours which include Burnt Orange,Teal, Burgess Blue and Moss Greenwhich will be complementing the classic Burleigh colours of blue, red and dove grey. Collectors will have a choice of seven new mugs to add to their collection, with each one carrying a special commemorative label.
To further celebrate Calico’s 50thanniversary, Burleigh has also collaborated with Harrods on an exclusive, new additional colourway, Mulberry Calico, which will be available from June. This will continue the long-standing relationship between Burleigh and Harrods that stretches back over 100 years when Queen Mary chose Burleigh china from Harrods.
“The new colours bring another dimension to the range and suit our new mug shape,” commented Burleigh’s creative director Steven Moore.
Burleigh was founded in Stoke-on-Trent in 1851 and is renowned for its blue and white ceramics which are hand made in England using traditional techniques. Its best selling Asiatic Pheasants design has been made in exactly the same way since 1862.
