Fair Trade Brand Earth Squared Gains B Corp Status

Fair trade brand Earth Squared, based in North Berwick, is delighted to have achieved B Corp certification, furthering the company’s commitment to operating its business as a means of positive change, as well as creating ‘feelgood’ fashion accessories.

“Fair trade was the reason we started the business, and we’ve always wanted to create fashion accessories with broad appeal, but with solid ethical, environmental and social credentials,” said Simon Henderson, director of Earth Squared. “B Corp certification helps us continue to improve not just what we do, but how we do it.  Customers are increasingly wishing to look behind a brand to understand the impact of their purchasing decisions, and we hope B Corp accreditation will give customers additional reassurance and confidence when considering our products.”

Established by husband and wife team Alison and Simon Henderson, Earth Squared have worked with producer groups in Vietnam since 2001 to create stylish, practical and affordable fashion accessories, which are now sold in hundreds of retail shops across the UK and overseas.

The B Corp certification process administered by the non profit, B Lab, measures a company’s social and environmental performance and involves a rigorous review of the impact of their operations and business model on their workers, customers, communities and environment.  To achieve certification, companies must meet a minimum verified score on the B Impact Assessment, and adopt legally binding commitments to continued improvement.
