Gift Indies Will Be Flying The Flag In The Run-Up To The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

With excitement building for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – and an extended four day Bank Holiday weekend taking place from Thursday June 2 until Sunday June 5 – over a third of PG&H’s Retail Barometer respondents will be making the most of the opportunity, both in terms of in-store and window displays and promotions, as well as commemorative product.

Those surveyed revealed that their promotions will include using the front window to create eye-catching Platinum Jubilee displays; hosting celebratory ‘Jubilee Day’ activities, to include complementary Jubilee party food and drinks, along with Jubilee gifts and party items. Gift indies are also planning to help to organise street parties and other Jubilee themed local events in collaboration with other local traders.

Of course, Royal commemorative tea towels are always a hit, with sales already quadrupling for Ulster Weavers, significantly exceeding demand.

“As the first British monarch to mark the milestone, the appetite for commemorative memorabilia related to the Jubilee year has been high,” confirms Ulster Weavers’ business development director Joanne Bradley.

It’s the latest in a long line of commemorative tea towels produced by the 140-year-old textile manufacturer. Previously, Ulster Weavers has created tea towels marking the Queen’s coronation, as well as Royal weddings, anniversaries and royal births. Most recently, the company created a print to celebrate the Queen’s 95th birthday on 21 April 2021.
