Indie Gift Shop Owner Publishes ‘Gift Giving Genius’

Could a publishing career beckon for Joco gift shop owner Jo Williams? She has just published her first book – Gift Giving Genius – a colourful, 300 page gift shop planner for people who struggle to find that perfect gift for friends and family. It’s available on Amazon and can also be purchased by other gift shops directly from Jo. “It not only helps face to face customers but also website sales, as shop details can be entered inside,” confirms Jo.

Jo was inspired to design the journal planner after speaking with the founder of ‘I Am Claire Clarke’, at an online networking event. “The concept came to me as I worked on ideas as to how this could fit in alongside the gift shop,” Jo told GiftsandHome.net. “I looked on Amazon and couldn’t find anything that really helped with gift giving, other than standard perpetual birthday calendars.  I wanted this to be so much more.”

She continued: “Everyday we see customers looking for inspiration in order to choose the perfect gift and we are often hear the same words – ‘I have to buy for someone and I have no idea what to get them.’

Jo’s book not only allows the gift giver to record the dates of all special occasions, but also has a large amount of space within the ‘All About ‘sections, where they can also record information about each person they buy for.

2-JO WILLIAMSThe information is broken down into sections to help the gift giver answer the type of questions that a sales person  would normally ask, in order to help them to establish the best option. They include what the recipient’s favourite colour is, whether they like animals, if they like fragrances, plus much more besides. The book also features useful content such as zodiac information, birth colours and birthstones, and also has an anniversary gifts list relating to the number of years a couple have been married.

Jo points out that the user can add photographs inside the book for each person too, or, if they are an artist, draw the person in the space provided.  “As with any journal, the more information that’s added, the easier the gift giving decisions will become,” comments Jo. “It helps avoid duplicated gifts, as the giver can track what they have given previously, and document how much they’ve spent, therefore ensuring they haven’t spent more on one person than another, which is often a tricky situation when children are involved.”

Adds Jo: “I’m sure we’ve all made mistakes when gifting, such as buying bubble bath for people with showers or sending the same gift to the same person. My book was designed with years of experience within the shop to avoid these pitfalls and to create a ‘gift giving genius’. Gifts will be thoughtful and appreciated, as they have been chosen with the knowledge of what the recipient likes.”

Jo has dedicated the book to her dad, who sadly and unexpectedly passed away earlier this year. “He supported me from the initial idea and it’s sad that he never got to see the final printed version,” she adds.

Jo will be holding an official book launch event at the shop on Friday 30 August to coincide with a VIP event for Joco members.  “I’ve already had customers asking if I can sign their copies when they come into the shop!” she highlights.
