Inis The Energy Of The Sea Sponsors Kayak Expedition

In addition to being the core funder of the Irish Whale & Dolphin Group, Inis the Energy of the Sea is among the sponsors of kayak coaches and expeditioners Sue Honan and Caoimhe Connor as they attempt to be the first Irish women to sea kayak around Iceland on their IRÍS ‘24 expedition.

The expedition departed from Dublin on 30 May, with Sue and Caoimhe being supported from Ireland by their teammate Niamh Kenny.

Sue from Drogheda, Louth, and Caoimhe from Newcastle, Down, are attempting the (approximately) 3,000 km voyage to raise awareness of dementia and motor neurone disease, and the condition-specific charities The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (The ASI) and Summit to Sea for MND.

The pair met at Mná na Mara – Women’s Sea Kayak Festival in Schull, Co. Cork– last September and since then have planned the expedition.

The pair, whose voyage started in South West Iceland at Stokkseyri, just east of Grindavik, could face fierce katabatic winds and cold conditions.

Both have had family members who lived with dementia and have a friend who is living with motor neuron disease. They hope by taking on this challenge they will raise vital awareness of the conditions.

In addition to Inis the Energy of the Sea, other sponsors include Sea Kayaking UK, Celtic Paddles, Reed Chillcheater, Expedition Foods, Kokatat, and PeakUK.
