Showing her true colours, actress and TV presenter Joanna Lumley admits that she likes to hoard stationery! “Rymans is the shop I can’t go past without going into,” she told June’s Good Housekeeping magazine.
Speaking to interviewer Gaby Huddart, she revealed: “I’ve got boxes full of pads and pens that I’ve bought, and delicious new envelopes, notebooks and pads . . . I just can’t resist lovely stationery. I’ve always got a notebook in my handbag so that I can jot things down.”
But stationery isn’t the only thing that Joanna can’t resist. She has a similar passion for greeting cards and thank you cards. “I keep them and use them again and again,” she told Good Housekeeping magazine. “I cut them up and make tags for gifts, or cut out the pictures and glue them to boxes.”
Revealing her gift giving side, she continued: “I decorate old shoe boxes and darling little boxes to give to people.”
Another celebrity with a crush on a retailer is Judy Finnigan, now an author, but previously the co-presenter of Richard and Judy with her husband Richard Madeley.
Her retailer passion is for gift and home shop Brocante in Fowey, owned by Kieron Cockley and David Lorimer. A finalist in the 2018 Independent Gift Retailer of the Year South West category, the shop received a massive boost from Judy in a recent issue of the Daily Express.
Bemoaning a wet Spring in Cornwall, Judy wrote: “Normally in April, I’m making plans for a mini house makeover: a visit to the Duchy of Cornwall nurseries to buy plants and tubs for the terrace, plus a trip to my favourite shop, Brocante in Fowey, for new vases, candles and cushions.”
