John Lewis & Partners was among the prestigious award winners at the recent Retail Week Awards, held in London last Thursday (March 14). The trophy was awarded to the department store for its experience-focused opening at Westfield White City in West London.
Other award winners on the night, included Primark ceo Paul Merchant who was crowned The Clarity Retail Leader of the Year; Ann Summers’ ceo Jaqueline Gold picked up Retail Activist of the Year for her work with the government in championing gender equality, small businesses and for being a hugely vocal and inspirational advocate for women in business; The Co-op was awarded the Global Impact Award for The Co-op Way; Julian Richer, founder of Richer Sounds, received the Outstanding Contribution to Retail;
Aldi won the Best Grocer and Best Own-Brand Range for its Mamia baby product range. Plus, jeweller Beaverbrooks also walked away with two awards, landing the Best Place to Work and Community Retailer accolades.
Other major retailers walking off stage with a trophy included Ocado Technology which was awarded The Digital Pioneer Award, and The Entertainer which was awarded Best Retailer Under £250m. Boxpark landed Retail Destination while The Hut Group picked up the award for International Growth Retailer.
Retail Week’s George MacDonald commented: “There was a renewed sense of purpose among this year’s winners about what the sector should be doing for the community and for its customers and that is what set them apart. They are all aspiring to be more meaningful, they are striving for good.”
