New Home Department Unveiled At Morleys In Brixton

A refurbishment of Morleys’ Brixton department store culminated in a re-launch extravaganza weekend, with locals invited  to pop in for food, drink, music and much more besides from Friday 11 November – Sunday 13 November.

The Home department – showcasing Gift, Lifestyle, Furniture and Bedding – has been joined by a repositioned Cook, Home Appliances and Dining sector on the second floor of the store. Brands include Aery, Nkuku, LSA and Denby.

“It has created a destination area, giving the sector a more urban feel as well as a lifestyle presentation,” confirms Morleys’ Amanda Bell – head of buying. “Our ceo’s vision was to have a boutique store, and we’ve all been very excited about the re-opening.”

Explaining the store’s history, Amanda continues: “the Brixton store was originally bought by our chairman’s grandfather in 1927, and almost a century on, the customer profile has completely changed, especially in the last ten years. Originally Brixton was a very traditional store, but now the area is younger, wealthier, trendier and ethnically diverse, with a big advantage being that the store is on Brixton high street and opposite the tube station. The project was supposed to happen pre-pandemic but unfortunately had to be delayed.”

Along with exclusive ‘gifts with purchase’ from a host of brands, customers were also able to enjoy masterclasses, tips and hints from artists across the new beauty hall, along with live canvas bag illustrations and style talks. Plus, DJ Miss Candy and DJ Floss kept everyone dancing all weekend.

Morleys is a group of eight local department stores, seven of which are in and around the Greater London area, with one in Newbury, Berkshire.  The Group is named after the original store – Morley and Lanceley – with gifts, lifestyle and home now a key part of the product mix.
