A March road trip to Indonesia beckons for Makasi, suppliers of high quality diftwood style teak root furniture and home accessories. Well established in Java and Bali, the company is continuing to help local communities by giving something back, with founder and managing director Dan Unsworth donating resources to some of the local elementary schools, attended by Makasi workers’ children.
Dan will be in the country for a two week buying trip in March, where he will be visiting local trade exhibitions and factories to source new products. “I will be starting my travels by spending two days at IFEX 23 in Jakarta, the largest international furniture and craft industry trade show in Indonesia, looking for ideas and new products,” explains Dan.
“I will then be visiting our main factory near Semarang, the hub for our independent fair trade village and jungle suppliers, where hand crafted pieces get sanded, finished, quality checked and wrapped, and subsequently loaded onto containers for our warehouse in Surrey.”
The next stage of his road trip will be to visit village and jungle suppliers in Central Java. “I will be checking out the new products we are planning for later this year and onwards in 2024.” The road trip ends with a visit to accessories and giftware suppliers in Bali.
“For our 150 brand new products coming in during 2023, we have concentrated on bringing in many more smaller new products with a lower price tag,” Dan told Giftsand Home.net. “We hope this will help fill the gap for our customers in terms of sales, due to the bigger price tag items slowing down at the moment.”
The company will also be holding an Open Week at its HQ in Surrey from 27 February – 3 March with visits by appointment only. Tel: 01932 910533 or email: info@makasiimports.co.uk
