The findings of Progressive Gifts & Home’s unique, annual Retail Barometer –the only annual survey into the independent gift retail sector – has revealed that on the sustainable front, a whopping 96% of those surveyed confirmed that environmental concerns had had an impact on gift sales, which increased slightly, remained the same or slightly increased.
Finding environmentally-friendly suppliers in 2024 was important for 68% of those surveyed, (up from 64% the previous year), with almost two thirds (64%) expanding their sustainable ranges last year.
Over two thirds of those surveyed (70%) confirmed that they had upped the ante last year. Eco-credentials ranged from only buying from companies featuring clear sustainability statements to choosing naked greeting cards where possible.
Being more vigilant with their recycling was also top of the agenda for some 56% of respondents, while half of respondents also reduced their plastic bags and changed energy provider.
