Predicted Christmas Cheer At John Lewis & Partners

Ahead of John Lewis & Partners officially announcing its festive performance figures on Thursday January 10, the department store offered a glimpse of how trading fared over the Christmas period for the six weeks to December 29.

Total sales for the week to December 22 were up 4.2%, and up 4.5% the week after – by comparison to last year – with very strong sales on Christmas Eve and a confident start to the store’s clearance sales both online and in shops.

“Although home sales were down 2.3% on last year, Gift Cook and Dine had a great week, up 25%, as shoppers bought last minute Christmas gifts. Gift food was also up 103%,” confirmed John Lewis & Partners’ head of shop for trade for Scotland and the North of England, Barry Matheson.

The retailer has confirmed that its sales were boosted by shoppers buying last minute Christmas gifts.
