Putting Their Best Foot Forward

The team at The Somerset Toiletry Company will be celebrating the company’s 20th anniversary in September, by walking 20 miles across the Mendip Hills.

The team-building exercise will be used to fundraise for The Happily Ever After Dog Rescue (HEA), a local family-run charity dedicated to rescuing and rehoming animals in need. “Our 20th year makes us conscious not only of our creative path but also of our environmental legacy,” comments the company’s Sakina Buoy, an aromaptherapy expert, who co-founded the company with her husband Roger.

Sakina says that the time spent walking across the Mendip Hills will be a time to both reflect and consider the company’s direction of travel. Committed to driving sustainability, existing processes and policies are under review, with packaging is high on the agenda.

Moving forward, the company is planning to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible in terms of plastic packaging. Next year, the business will be introducing recycled plastics and Break Down Plastic (BDP) into their packaging. “BDP is a revolutionary organic polymer used to degrade plastic waste within a few years – not centuries – should it end up in landfill,” Sakina explains.

The Somerset Toiletry Company develops its own-branded toiletries, as well as private label for leading retail groups.
