Sebnini Honoured With A King’s Award For Enterprise

Following three years of outstanding export growth of over 500%, leading private label company Sebnini, a major force in the global home fragrancing market, is among the first home fragrance companies to be honoured with a King’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade.

Founder and managing director Gert Schyberg said that the company was delighted. “It’s a real honour,” he stated. “The most important thing for me is that it’s recognition for our staff. They have worked so hard to make the business a success and we couldn’t have achieved this without their endeavours and expertise. It’s a real tribute to them.”

The family run business was founded by Gert and his wife Carina when they relocated from Denmark to the UK, where using candles everyday was commonplace. Spotting an opportunity in the UK, they started their fledgling candle import business from their tiny London flat in 1987, with the company going from strength to strength and the Sebnini brand established in 2001.

In the ensuing years, Sebnini has become a private label company, with its luxury candles and diffusers appearing under different brand names in major retailers in the UK and worldwide, to include supermarkets.

While the UK and Ireland remain Sebnini’s main markets, they are closely followed by the US and Europe. The company also supplies Canada, and has contracts with retailers in Australasia, with the international side of the business headed by Gert and Carina’s son, Seb Schyberg, Sebnini’s international sales manager.

“Although only I have been invited to Buckingham Palace on June 27, we will all be together, with our staff and other stakeholders, when we are presented with the King’s Award by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant at our drinks reception at Sebnini HQ,” confirmed Gert.

The company, based in Smallfield, Surrey, currently employs 20 office based staff and some 60 in its factory.

Sebnini has the right to use the King’s Award accreditation for the next five years.
