ShopKind Campaign Launched To Protect Shopworkers

A campaign, which launched on 17 April, and runs until 23 April, is currently reminding customers to ShopKind in stores and acknowledge the important role of shopworkers to communities.

New consumer polling conducted for the #ShopKind campaign has revealed that more than one in three people believe that shopping has become more frustrating as a result of the cost of living crisis, with 36% of customers having personally witnessed a shopworker being verbally or physically abused by another customer.

“Shopworkers should be able to go about their day-to-day business with respect and thanks from people using their invaluable service,” comments Jeff Moody, commercial director at Bira, whose membership includes gift retailers. “This is a great campaign which we are encouraging all of our members to get behind. We want to be able to help encourage the positive behaviours in shops, and also acknowledge the important role of shopworkers in our villages, towns and cities.

Continues Jeff: “With 400 shopworkers being abused each day is a shocking figure and even one case isn’t acceptable. We would therefore urge each and every shopworker who is abused to ensure they report the crime as soon as possible.”
