Commenting on the day, John Lewis’ Bérangère Michel, partner and operations director, explained that the store’s Black Friday event had started the Friday before, on November 22.

“Our decision to start promotions earlier this year reflects the fact that Black Friday continues to extend across a longer period. In addition to our deals, we monitored and price matched high street competitors throughout the week to offer our customers some of the best deals on the high street. With some of our most compelling deals having gone live overnight, Black Friday itself (November 29) was particularly busy with customers taking advantage of the new offers.”

The department store’s busiest shopping hour online was between midnight and midday on Friday November 29, especially between 9am and 10am.

The department store confirmed that the number one searched for products were LEGO, iPads and Airpods.

According to analysts, overall, this year’s Black Friday promotion is predicted to break buying records.
