Each year, Talking Tables fundraises for Comic Relief – which will be going out tonight live on BBC 1 from 7pm – and this year, the company wanted to do something different, especially as it’s the fundraising event is celebrating its 40th year.
“We are all about gathering people together around a table, having fun and creating memories,” explains Talking Tables’ founder Clare Harris. “So, our community steering group called a meeting of everyone who wanted to help organise this year’s event and they came up with the idea of combining our popular ‘Wing it Wednesday’ lunches when people cook and bring in food for everyone, with a raffle and auction. One way or another everyone was involved, from setting up the decorations and table, to bringing food, to donating raffle and auction prizes.”
The star auction prize was a weekend at a shepherd’s hut, with the top bidder Tim Hollis, Talking Tables’ brand development manager.

Continued Clare: “It was a great day, and the team did so well to raise more than £1,000 for Comic Relief. Grace Ludlam and Ceri Saunders did us proud with managing a fun raffle and a fiercely competitive auction of super prizes. Chef Yabu Lurie led his sous-chefs to a great spread. It’s a great cause, and, as a company, Talking Tables will be doubling up the team’s efforts.”
