Talking Trends: The Power Of The Collective

Looking to Spring/Summer 2020, trend analyst Phil Pond, a director of Scarlet Opus, says that an emerging trend that will dominant next year is about the Power of the Collective.

“It’s about people rising up together as a community of collaborators,” he explains. “It’s about consideration for the planet, the farmers, factory workers and the materials used. It’s about a global outlook which installs hope that it must get better for all of us. It’s about rebelling against establishments, with their systems, protocols and procedures, holding governments and charities to account. It’s about moving to a more relaxed comfortable environment, and about re-defining what is means to be prosperous.”

Relating this to giftware, Phil says that we will see a bold colour palette with products intensely patterned. “Every surface will be an opportunity for pattern.”

He says that the strongest motif will be the shape of the human hand. “It will be a prominent pattern and shape across the board, and will be particularly prominent in giftware.”

He continues, it will leading to a celebration of diversity, about embracing what’s new from our increasing globalised world and reaching out for a better, truer future.”
