The collaboration between iconic London-based jewellery designers Tatty Devine and Scandi brand, Moomin Characters, went into shops at the end of last week (October 17), with a capsule collection launching both in store and online.
Rosie Wolfenden MBE and Harriet Vine MBE, the founders of Tatty Devine, commented: “There is a natural synergy in the underlying messages of friendship and love that flow through both of our creations. We can’t wait to reveal this collection to a whole new generation of Tatty Devine and Moomins fans, and can’t wait to wear it ourselves!”
The collection – which includes necklaces, earrings, and brooches – features characters and design elements taken from the world of Moominvalley, created by Finnish artist and illustrator Tove Jansson in the 1940s.
Moomintroll, Snorkmaiden, Little My and other favourites have been immortalised in Tatty Devine’s signature glossy laser cut, layered acrylic jewellery, featuring delicate floral motifs, hand-penned by Tove, and digitally printed to appear as though they’ve jumped from the pages of a well-thumbed Moomins book.
“Moomin and Tatty Devine share a significant fan base of cool, young women who love the bright and the bold, and who cherish craft, design and creative integrity,” comments Sophia Jansson, creative director of Moomin Characters and niece of Tove Jansson. “I know that Tove, who was herself both an artist and a businesswoman, would greatly admire what Harriet and Rosie have achieved while staying totally true to their own vision.”
A celebratory event at Tatty Devine’s Seven Dials store will be held this Saturday (October 26), when celebrity nail artist Lee Moore will be in-store giving fans Moomin manicures.
