The voting has closed for this year’s Great British High Street Awards, with 12 high streets in the running to scoop the Champion High Street Award 2019.
The finalists are: the Town Centre, Hitchin; Freeman Street, Grimsby; Belper Town, Belper; High Street, Turriff; Main Street, Prestwick; Alness High Street, Ross-shire; Narbeth High Street, Pembrokeshire; High Street, Swansea; High Street, Treorchy; High Street, Newtonards; Town Centre, Enniskillen and Bow Street, Lisburn.
Among the gift shop owners holding her breath is Alison Chapman of award winning Wonder Stuff in Treorchy, a past Great Gift Retailer of the Year winner.
Alison told Wales Online that she is confident that Treorchy can remain a place where shoppers will visit to browse, thanks to the ‘characters’ on the high street. “The infrastructure is different and the shops are different in character rather than being uniform,” she explained.
The Great British High Street awards are organised by the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government in partnership with Visa.
